Today’s lesson is about the timely ballad “I Am Just A Small Small Bird” because hey, we all just feel like a bird sometimes.
Our favorite version is the original by Chao Chuan 赵传 (趙傳) zhào chuán. Have a listen to the karaoke video at the end.
Heard it before? If not, trust us when we say that when you bust this one out at KTV, almost everyone will join you on the famous chorus.
“Chief” Chao was born in Taiwan in 1961 and rose to prominence in mainland China in the late 1980s largely because of his ugly appearance. That’s correct, we could not make this up if we tried.
This particular song was released in 1990 and if you can find a 30+ year old Chinese person who hasn’t heard this song before, we’ll send you a hongbao.
