You can use these posts to practice the songs beforehand, or even open up the article as you’re singing to look at the pinyin, for quick reference in a jam.
Today is the classic minimalist love song trying to get “the girl across from me to look over here”… a perfect song to sing to your girl or to make any friend giggle.
It’s also perfect for language learners as it has very simple vocabulary. And you can easily substitute “女nǚ girl” for “男 nán boy” if you’re feeling clever.

In our opinion, the best version of this song is the original production by Taiwanese heartthrob Richie Jen 任贤齐 Rén Xiánqí. Born in 1966, he didn’t release this particular song until some time in 1998.
And it was performed at the ’99 Spring Festival Gala, so literally everyone in the country learned it and got it stuck in their heads for eternity. Thanks, Richie!
He’s been in numerous movies and TV shows, as well as countless cameos, so we’re sure you’ve seen him before… Time to put a famous song to match his famous face.
